What happens during the season

Pollination in Spring

As the days start to warm up, we check the hives and prepare them for the spring pollination, and first honey crop.

Moving hives in Summer

During this time the hives have been busy and ready to be moved on to the main honey crop, with the hope of a successful season.

Usually, we harvest Thyme honey in November and Manuka honey in February. Only once per crop.

Honey Extraction

Honey Extraction

Our honey is extracted locally in Cromwell at an approved extraction plant.

Autumn

Going into Autumn, the hives are fed and given protein to keep them at optimum health. It is important to keep them as healthy as possible as Winter approaches.

As the season winds down, the bee keeper and bees get a well deserved break, when all the jobs are finished.
